SFF Services provide qualified offshore and onshore personnel to meet client requirements. Experienced seafarers, including former fishing vessel skippers, have been utilised as Passive Acoustic Monitioring (PAM) Operators for a variety of offshore operations, conducting the necessary watches prior to and during offshore activities. Most commonly required during seismic surveys to reduce the risk of injury and disturbance to marine mammals, PAM Operators can also be supplied during other offshore campaigns such as pipeline installation, rock dumping, piling, and renewable energy operations.

PAM Operators act as observers in hours of darkness or reduced visibility, using hydrophones to acoustically detect marine mammals and complementing the efforts of Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs) when visual watches are not possible. PAM Operators can install the relevant deployment gear and computer systems, and complete the relevant Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) reporting forms and required reports. All operators provided are trained by one of the Company’s recognised PAM equipment suppliers and hold a JNCC approved MMO training certificate.
